Counterpart Driving Licence - D740 Paper Part 2

Counterpoint Driving licence

UK Driving Licence Offence Codes Explained

The DVLA Driving Licence is issued for 10 years only

Part Two - The D740 Counterpart Driving Licence carries the full name and address of the driver. The name, licence number and signature should match the Photo Card. If the address does not match the address given for other purposes, this must be queried.

The middle part of the document has two main sections Provisional Entitlements (See Category 9) and Endorsements which details the Drivers driving endorsements, offence codes, disqualifications and penalty points and as such may give rise to problems with Insurance.

Each licence endorsement has a unique offence code and penalty points on a scale from one to eleven, allocated depending on the severity of the offence. The endorsement and penalty points is updated on your driver record and written on your Part Two paper or the counterpart document of your Part One photo card driving licence.

If you're convicted of a motoring offence, the courts can fine you and endorse your part two with penalty points. Endorsements must stay on your Part Two for four or eleven years depending on the offence.

Each Offence Code Explained in the right-hand column.

Before allowing anybody to drive a vehicle on behalf of the Company, irrespective of the ownership of the vehicle, the Company should have a method of checking and recording that Drivers are legally able to drive the vehicle(s) allotted or owned by them. Don't forget to check Dates & Towing Weight!

If the Driver is unable to produce the D740 Counterpart Driving Licence it is possible to check the details at DVLA Swansea (TEL 0870 240 0009) but only with the Drivers permission and in their presence.

VDOC - Golden Rule

If a Driver refuses to produce their licence (either part) or is not prepared to all checks to be made at Swansea on no account should they be allowed to drive a Company vehicle or their own vehicle on behalf of the Company.

Once all checks have been carried out then the Drivers licence details should be entered on an authorised vehicle driver list, preferably with copies of both parts of the licence kept on file.
