Driving Licence Endorsement Codes and Penalty Points

Part Two - is where endorsements are recorded.

Each licence endorsement has a unique offence code and “penalty points” on a scale from one to eleven, allocated depending on the severity of the offence. The endorsement (and penalty points) is updated on your driver record and written on your Part Two paper or the counterpart document of your Part One photo card driving licence.

If you’re convicted of a motoring offence, the courts can fine you and endorse your part two with penalty points. Endorsements must stay on your Part Two for four or eleven years depending on the offence.

How long do endorsements remain active?

An endorsement must stay on your Part Two paper for the following periods of time:

Eleven years from date of conviction

If the offence is:-

• drinking or drugs and driving - shown as - # DR10, DR20, DR30, DR80 #

• causing death by careless driving while under the influence of drink or drugs – shown as - # CD40, CD50, CD60 #

• causing death by careless driving, then failing to provide a specimen for analysis – shown as - # CD70 #

Example: Date of conviction is 21st January 2000 - the endorsement must stay on part two until 21st January 2011.

Four years from the date of conviction

If the offence is for:-

• reckless/dangerous driving - shown as - DD40, DD60, DD80

• offences resulting in disqualification

• disqualified from holding a full driving licence until a driving test has been passed

Example: Date of conviction is 10th January 2000 – the endorsement must stay on part two until 10th January 2004.

Four years from the date of offence

In all other cases.

Example: Date of offence 10th June 2000 – the endorsement must stay on part two until 10th June 2004.

NB. As VDOC Manager don’t neglect your procedures and checks as you could lay yourself, your Directors and Company open to a charge of neglect of duty of care which is an offence!
