DRIVING LICENCE
After 10 Years use Most People will now have a "Two Part" Photo Card Licence
Part One - The Plastic Driving Licence, which carries the photograph of the driver and basic details on the front. The rear of the card carries more detail, in both diagrammatic and written form, of entitlement and expiry of each category shown as number 9 on both sides.
Entitlement Categories with (Minimum Age):
P(16), A1(17), A(17), A(21), B1(17), B(17), B+E(17), C1(18), C1+E(21), C(21), C+E(21), D1(21), D1+E(21), D(21), D+E(21), F(17), G(21), H(21), K(16), P(16)
Before allowing anybody to drive a vehicle on behalf of the Company, irrespective of the ownership of the vehicle, the Company should have a method of checking and recording that Drivers are legally able to drive the vehicle(s) allotted or owned by them.
Don't forget dates & towing weight!
Part Two - The Counterpart Paper Driving Licence carries the full name and address of the driver. The name licence number and signature should match the Photo Card. If the address does not match the address given for other purposes this be queried. The middle part of the document gives details of the Drivers driving endorsements, disqualifications and penalty points and as such may give rise to problems with Insurance.
If the Driver is unable to produce the Counterpart it is possible to check the details at DVLA Swansea (TEL 0870 240 0009) but only with the Drivers permission and in their presence.
If a Driver refuses to produce their licence (either part) or is not prepared to all checks to be made at Swansea on no account should they be allowed to drive a Company vehicle or their own vehicle on behalf of the Company.Once all checks have been carried out then the Drivers licence details should be entered on the authorised drivers list, preferably with copies of both parts of the licence kept on file.
